Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Saturday morning at 9:00 am, my wife and I were off to Sky Manor for a Valentine's Day flight and breakfast. A pleasant 20 minute ride each way and a great way to accrure brownie points for use later in the day!

Mt Washington

2/17 was one of those rare perfect days for a flight. A friend and I loaded into the A-1 Dog And headed out to find places to land. Traded seats at each stop, back seater had camera duty. The wind in mountains of New Hampshire was a quiet 10 kts with no mountain turbulence. We cranked in a little nose up and allowed the Husky to follow the trees as we climbed to the top of Mt. washington.
When Washington is not in the clouds or experiencing 100+ mph wind, the trip around the top is a site to behold.
With that behind us we worked our way through the valleys and down to Alton for a couple of landings on the ice.
Just one of those days that make you very happy to have the ticket.

Would love to see a few pics if possible! It is absolutely gorgeous in that neck of the woods. If it weren't so damn cold I'd consider moving there!

Absolutely gorgeous here in Southcentral Alaska this weekend so I decided it was time to knock out my last two cross country flights for PPL.

Saturday: Elmendorf - Kenai - Merrill - Birchwood - Elmendorf 3.0hrs

Sunday: Elmendorf - Kenai - Talkeetna - Elmendorf 3.2hrs

Had a lot of fun and got real good experience working with ANC flight following.

Oh, and if the guy flying a yellow and white 152 into Talkeetna yesterday is reading this.......... I was the dumbass who landed on 18 while calling out 36. Sorry about that and thanks for not chewing my ass on the radio, even though I would have deserved it. I'm still learning.

There's no way you could ever be as embarrassed as when this guy we all know ran his white and yellow 170 off a 100' wide runway into the grass (high speed taxiway.) Ended up back on the real taxiway, all tower said was "Cessna blah blah, say parking." Some stiff upper lips there at Medford tower.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Done that. Fortunately nobody else landing at the time.

I suspect the tower just thought he was a normal tailwheel pilot taking a shortcut because he can. "Just can't stay out of the grass, those guys."

Life is good. Life is better with wings.

I always claim that I'm checking out the grass before landing on it on my next visit.

The faster I go , the farther behind I get.

Left DRO around 8 AM. went to OOC tomeet my buddy, a little ramp talk, and off to Utah.

Went to Dark Canyon, recommend landing upper 1/2. Cleared some brush, had a snack, and headed for Simplot.

Simplot was pretty soft, small bumps/clump grass.

Then to Happy Canyon. Good shape.

Down the drainage for a flyby of Poison Spider, then back up over Dirty Devil(stopped in there a couple weeks ago, it is in good shape). Stopped at Robbers Roost. Another pretty soft strip. I would recommend landing as far uphill as you are comfortabe with, and keep your power up until you are turned around and pointed back down hill.

From there, over to Angel Point. Good shape. Fixed the windsock. Zip ties were breaking off from drying out in the sun. Replaced them with safety wire.

Then up to High Spur. Pretty bumpy and soft. Took off from the road.
Didn't see any point in going back.

Then over to Tangri-la. Great news from there. I will make a seperate post about that.

Then back to DRO. Got in about 6:30 PM. Pretty good day :D

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

You are my hero shortfielder. What a fun day that must have been. You know what its like to own a Cherokee and read your post, hitting all of the strips I've dreamed of, in one day!!! I'll tell you sometime.

Saw your bird on Barnstormers a whilst back. You trading up or down or building???

Altitude is Time…. Airspeed is Life!

I am considering going to a lighter plane that will let me get into places that I don't want to take the 180.
