Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

The music in my video is Sarah Simmons - she is a contestant on The Voice for this season. She is singing "The Story" and kinda reminds me of Janis Joplin.

This is yet another nice trip report and I'm sure I'm like most who read your posts by exhibiting a bit of envy for all of them, but when I read the above quote for some reason all I could picture was you in a tiara with high heels, lipstick, golden earrings, and a sash that says "MISS CAVE MAN". It wasn't until the last sentence that I realized that you meant you "missed Cave Man" this year!

I hope that image leaves me soon

Well, it probably doesn't count but I just got done flying across North America and back for a wedding in FL last weekend.

That picture is from Denver, I spent most of the time sleeping, hahaha!

We crossed the Sierras from Auburn (KAUN) and made a stop at Markleeville (M45) for a run and a dog swim before heading back west to see the BCP crew at the 180/185 Fly-in at Columbia on Saturday morning.

Re: Where did you fly today?

On Saturday, Craig and I met up at at Twin Oaks to wait in line for an hour to get some pancakes... We escaped the madness and flew to Cottonwood Island where we had a little bit of fun, then went north to Hoquiam for lunch where we met another pilot flying his new pacer who was also headed to Copalis, so we all had lunch together and then all three of us moved on to Copalis. Craig and I headed back south ticking off some private strips he know on the way home. Fun day! Some video to follow:

Re: Where did you fly today?

What a difference a week makes. The weather around Caveman was awesome last weekend. Did a bit of Aviation MX. Didn't annoy a single person on the ground and I had a ton of fun. I'm getting more at home with the whole tailwheel thing.

Nice country there. Sculpted by wind and rain over millennia. You are right about your comfort level on the TD. More than half of those landings I wasn't aware that the wheels were on the ground until the tail came down. Good show!

Re: Where did you fly today?

We are so blessed to be living here. In a couple of weeks we will start heading more to the high country to escape the heat. It's great to have the option. I've been intentionally heading out on breezy days and working on cross wind landings to get my comfort level up. A lot of these strips are hardly much wider than a jeep road so I can't get sloppy and let it drift too far.
I put 8:50's on it and hope to have 26's on it soon. Makes a LOT of difference. I can't believe I waited so long to get rid of the training wheel.

Ha Ha. I'm going back to one. None of these airplanes are permanent additions I guess. They come and go.

Re: Where did you fly today?

S12 pilot: Great video! What software/hardware did you use to put this together? I go to pick up my new Maule this weekend, and have been contemplating getting the gear to document some of my adventures - after I get good enough in the plane to create something other than horror films. I'll be flying the plane back to Virginia from Seattle, and will see a lot of incredible scenery along the way. We'll capture some of it using the video feature on our digital camera, but that won't be a permanent solution. Before I invest in new gear, I'd like input from folks like you that are producing memorable videos. I especially like the way you incorporate both still and moving images in the same video.

By the way, your handle is S12 pilot, but your avatar looks like a Rans S6, and the video is clearly a Rans S7. What's the story behind your migration across the Rans product line? I always thought the S6 taildragger looked a lot like a small Maule, and still think I might wind up in one some day.
