Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Thanks guys!

DD, if you want a higher res pic for a background, let me know and I'll email you one.

Rob, 11k is cool (literally), and the 180 handled it well. :) I think there's opportunity to land even higher.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Its just plain weird seeing your plane in land brad, after all the impressive photos and videos I've seen of her on floats, she just looks like a fish out of water with wheels on!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Tim, taking the Cub off floats is always a bummer... wheels, argh... but what else can you do when the lakes get solid. Ah well.. Can always look forward to next Spring! :D

These are some pics Nate Krueger (was working the line that day) took of me coming into the floatplane pond at the end of the season.

Lakes getting solid......things i woud never even consider! It still amazes me that a body of water that big can just turn to ice for a single season.

Great shots!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Went flying up to Lake George a couple days ago. Saw a few goats, a decent bull, and quite a few bear tracks.

This is one of the reasons why I need a bigger plane.

Re: Where did you fly today?

This is just off the end of the runway (on the hill to the left), at the bottom of the lake. I've dragged it a few times waiting for it to firm up. Landed it yesterday but didn't get out (letting the neighbors get used to me being there). Decided today was the day to get a photo. If this drought ever ends I'll loose all my practice areas and have to move to Alaska.

Nope, they were on the plane when I bought it. Randy added them some time after he built the plane, so the SQ2 GOT STOL videos have the original flaps.

Awesome, nonetheless.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Noreen, Chuck and I flew up Spanish Fork canyon to look at the pretty colors and decided to land at the Scofield strip to let Chuck sniff around and mark things. On short final I flew right through a flock of birds trying to escape the plane by flying right in it's path! I thought for sure we were going to hit one. We didn't, but it was close. Check out the video below:

Re: Where did you fly today?

I was at the Alaska Aviation Museum today with my four-year old son, having a great time running from one thing to the next like a pinball in a pinball game. But I really wanted to spend some time at the airplane of a close friend, that is on display there. We made it there after enjoying lots of other exhibits, and patiently waited our turn while a lady ahead of us completely mangled the history of this particular plane to her companion... Anyway, her rendition got me to reading the plaque. It seems that when I took a ride in the righthand seat over 15 years ago, that I was sharing the same seat cushion that Charles Lindberg's butt once graced. I'm still a little buzzed over that, frankly!

1966 H-295 Helio Courier, N6919V

The plaque doesn't mention it, but his plane and pilot also made 13 landings and take-offs at the 14,200' level on Denali, for rescues, etc.

There were also some good examples of the Alaska Airlines 737 gravel deflectors that were discussed in a recent thread.

Looks like a fun day, DP!

Thanks for snapping the pic of that plaque. I love reading those things in museums!
