Re: Where did you fly today?

Mark sold it recently to a guy from Aitkin who flew it up to Baudette a couple hours after I took a pic of it sitting on the beach at Gull. They told me getting it out of the Rainy river at dusk and up the boat ramp was rather "fraught with interest" shall we say... :D

Definitely did NOT fly today. Still riding in the cattle hauler. Also, the savage has no wifi capability at FL370.

Morning flight from Hemet to Hatfield and Brawley. Amazing change of topography flying through the San Jacinto /Santa Rosa Mountains down into the Imperial Valley with the Salton Sea at an elevation of about -128ft. Major agriculture region in the middle of the desert!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew down to Los Banos to give a church friend a ride. He was learning to fly about 20 years ago but had to give up due to finances. He said he was thinking of taking it up again and shouldn't have to do to much to finish off his cert. I let him fly the airplane for a while. Yeah... he's going to need to do more work than he thinks. :)

I forgot to turn the video camera on while he was flying... I kept having to show him where level flight was. :) So instead here's a video of an uneventful landing at a (yawn) paved airport.

Re: Where did you fly today?

A couple of shots from Saturday afternoon. After what seems like tons of rain and gray days in western Washington, we had a nice Saturday. I was out for a local flight and was checking out Mt. Baker, the closest of the volcanos to me.

I'm pretty sure there is enough room on top for someone with skis to make a stop if they needed a precautionary landing. Just watch out for the big cracks [emoji33]

Re: Where did you fly today?

I didn't go anywhere, I just flew around our new home base long enough to warm up the oil and get it spread all over the inside of the engine. Folks that have lived in the northwest for a long time may take this scenery for granted, but it still takes my breath away each time I fly. We've been too busy getting settled and shopping for a lot to build on, so I haven't done much flying yet. We'll slowly work our way into more aviation adventures. For now, just getting off the ground here is still exciting!

This is just after departure from Jefferson County - the shot is looking down Discovery Bay towards the Olympics.
Image

This is looking over the town of Friday Harbor towards Mount Baker in the distance. The wide angle lens makes it look very distant, but my eyes were taking in everything in amazing detail.
Image

Now that I live 15 minutes from our Maule rather than an hour and a half away, I'm hoping to get more flying in and to visit some of the amazing spots I've seen others posting about all these years! Reading about other's adventures in the Northwest in postings here on BCP is part of why we moved to Washington State. Now that we're here, it is better than I had imagined! I'm a happy aviator!

That boat in the center of the shot is a NOAA research ship. It's been hanging out there in Discovery Bay for about a week, doing what I have no idea. I know a gal who lives in a high-bank waterfront home right by it, I've just about got her convinced that the crew has been spying on her with binoculars. She's keeping all her shades pulled down now until they go away.
RW2 is correct that our local scenery is beautiful, but we don't have an exclusive on it. The country that Titus posted photos of is just about as different from the pacific NW as can be, yet it too is beautiful.

On Sunday I flew the family up to Bridgeport for lunch. Bryan and Justin met us out there. After that we flew up to Alpine to check it out then back home. It was a great day to fly!

The airport is Cliff Hatfield Memorial - KCLR. Nothing there except one hangar. 8/26 is the only runway listed on the sectional, airnav, ect. The paralleling "strip" to the runway is a closed taxiway but can't find any info on the other runway/taxiway.
