I hope to make an appearance on Sat. the 28th. I hope that everyone isn't off having breakfast at Sulphur Creek or Big Creek. I hope to be in there about 8:00 on that Sat. morning. Bob

I can't stay as I am bringing a young man that I am mentoring. He is trying to decide if he wants to get a pilots license or not. So, I don't think I will be able to stay over. If he backs out I will stay over if I can find a tent. Bob

Bob, if you are unable to find a tent you can always use one of the bunk houses

Yeah all you need is a sleeping bag and maybe a air matress but there used to be egg crate foam mattresses in the bunk houses. Gives new meaning to "going to the Mattresses". You also gotta be aware that there are small critters that scamper in and out of the bunk houses too. I usually spend my last night in a bunk house, as I load the plane the day before and just have to put my sleeping bag in the next morning and leave.

Question....Where will we be parking at JC? Is there a more favorable spot or has there been a place reserved? What kind of access to the vehicles is there if one would want to go to Yellow Pine for supplies.
Will be coming in on Friday or Saturday with a Glasstar from the north. We are planning to leave NE, on to the Black Hills of SD, then Devils Tower, accross northern Wyoming, Northwestern Montana, Northern Idaho, and then on to JC.
Also would like any info on good places to stop for camping and fishing in northern Wyoimng and Northwestern Montana. I am waiting for Galen's Montana book to show up in the mail.

Park where you can and camp where you park depending on how full it is. The vans are, or used to be 5 dollars a day for use to go only to Yellow pine or the Ice House which is a swimming hole about 3 miles upstream. Most times you can hitch a ride with whoever has rented them and is going to town, as they seat 8 or nine... When you land just park in a empty spot or in the area in front of the camera and scout out a camp spot. Then move your plane where you want. THere are tie down chains. I suspect that we have the group area which is about half way to the outhouse you see on the left in the distance. But folks will be camped everywhere. There is about as much camp area behind the camera that you can't see as in front so I don't think we will max it out like the 180 185 guys.

There are also a few tent sites in the group camp area near the fence that overlooks the creek.

Riding into town with random people in those vans is part of the fun.

Just a reminder to everyone to search for and read the several Johnson Creek threads we have in the forum. There's some interesting info in there about approaches and what not to do. Read some suggestions here for those going into JC for the first time. Also, read the Berk Snow accident thread.

I have not personally operated an aircraft into or out of JC, but I am lucky to have flown in and out of there a few times with jmtgt, Strata, and N6EA. Knowing what to expect, and being along for the ride when someone does it properly goes a long way I think.

It's going to be a great time if the weather is good. If the weather all goes to crap, or the forecast is looking bleak, we can discuss alternatives or rescheduling. No reason to have people out trying to get to JC in crap weather.

Good thing about Idaho is, if you don't like the weather right now, wait a couple of hours and it will change. Storms in the summer go through quickly but be on the ground when they are in the vicinity....

Probably the best way to get information regarding the fly-in is to call a friend who can check the website for you.

I'm gonna be there no matter what so as far as I'm concerned, there's a fly in rain or shine>>I leave for JC on the 22nd and arrive at the tail end of the cub fly in. I don't think we should cancel on questionable weather. It's always questionable till the last minute anyway. Just go. If it's bad wait till it gets better and press on...

Anybody look at the webcam this morning? We've got 3" of snow in McCall, and it's still coming down. I'm headed into work to sit and wait for a while....

Baaah...snow's almost melted.

My mom mentioned the other day that this is the coldest June on record for our area. I hope we get some warm weather in the next 2 weeks. The McCall, Id forecast for the weekend is sun.

Either way, the rivers and creeks are going to be howling that weekend.
