There is a public range there after all. It's kind of like moving into a house on the departure end of Seatac and then complaining about jet noise.

Now that's funny right there.

Garden Valley is a great spot. Our 180/185 club has been having a fly-in there for many, many years. We moved it to July from mid June to get better weather. It can rain a lot there in June and make sure you have a good tent. Our club has donated $ and time to help with the new showers and other things. It won't hold as many planes as JC. There is a nice Motel just down the road if your better half isn't in to camping and a neat saloon in town. You can buy about anything you need in that area. Sometimes we've been weathered in there for a day or two after the Fly-in. :D :D :D

Does anyone have contact information on whomever runs the Garden Valley Rifle Range? The numbers I've found online seem to be disconnected - no persons listed.

If so, please either reply here or pm me? Thanks!

I'm not going to the fly in but I've been at GV fishing for the day while several were at the range across the road... noise wasn't that objectionable... but then I shoot my AR's every chance I get ... it's far enough away

Re: BCP Annual Fly-In 27-29 June 2014 @Garden Valley, ID

First time attendee here.

What is the typical event and flying schedule for one of these campouts? What airports are folks most likely to visit? Are they big groups, or instead many smaller groups that venture out? Are there organized flying events that occur or is it more or less just ad-hoc?

I ask because I'd like to attend. However realistically, I don't have the experience nor training necessary to safely fly in anything more difficult than Garden Valley. This means if I want to join you guys, I will probably have to round up someone more experienced to come along during the flying segments -- and depending on the individual, they may or may not want to camp; meaning I will have to fetch them from Boise each day. The equipment would be a rental 172 or 182, depending on what's available. So, i'm trying to plan accordingly and see if this is even realistic.

I think the fly outs are just kinda adhock and small groups, Last year we just stayed in place. I think you will find if you just do a little asking, you will find that you could probably hitch a ride with someone and maybe get a little first hand experience with some of the other strips around. Pretty good bunch of folks on here. Usually lots of help if you need it!

I'd argue that a fly-in is not the place to learn something new. Flying with a gaggle can be very overwhelming, and cause you to possibly suffer a lapse in judgement due to the sense of urgency at being left behind or catch up. In fact, my approach to these things has always been to just accept them as a social gathering and enjoy the visit while I chill out at the camp.

I'm probably in the minority on that one, but flying around with lots of other planes just isn't my thing. I do like to be social on the ground though.

Getting out to check out other airports by yourself is another thing though, and if you're not comfortable with mountain flying, by all means-- have an instructor ride along. Just 2 or 3 hours of flying with someone qualified can take you to the next level with this stuff.

By all means follow Zane's advice. The Idaho mountain strips are not somewhere you want to fly if you are inexperienced. Easy to become a greasy spot on a rock. I know a great instructor. PM me if you'd like his contact info.

Like I said above, If you get there you might be able to find someone who is flying out to one or more of the more challenging places, you might be able to go in their aircraft to see if you are interested or not in getting some instruction and learning a new skill! :?:
I agree with everyone, coming to a fly in to learn how to do it is not the time or place! #-o

So it looks like I won't be able to make it this year after all. It's not my wedding but if I know whats best for me I'll be going with the Mrs. to be! Anyway, I need a POC for the event so I can send them the agreement from Idaho Aero. Please post here that you'll volunteer so people know who to contact, then contact me via pm. Thank you and sorry I can't attend this year! Next year....

I've been to Garden Valley every summer for the last 6-7 years the addition of the showers was a big jump ahead . On patio just next to shower is several electrical outlets to charge up your electronic gizmos etc. There is also some electrical outlets at back end of equipment shed . Annie come out almost every day to do the watering /mowing and keeps the place in great shape . The river has some good trout fishing near by - like less than 100' . The shooting range is across the road for all ,but please clean up your mess.

OK, I'm a bit late on this reply. Sorry. I have my work schedule for the rest of this year and I'm off work (June 28-July 1) the weekend of this fly in. I can put in a couple of days of vacation (June 26 and 27) to help out with getting stuff to the airstrip. But, I'm hoping to have my plane flying by June if all possible.

I have a small 4x8 trailer and my Bronco that I can load up some stuff like firewood, extra chairs, tables, etc. Just let me know.

Rob and a few of you others have my number or know how to get in touch with me.

I think I still know how. If I can drive a 300 ton haul truck, I'm sure I can still fly a plane
