Flying with RobW56

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Flying with RobW56

Took a short flight in the 180 up around Lake Berryessa today. It was good to get out in the cool morning air.

The visors in my plane were looking a little sad so I decided to freshen them up a bit. I'll eventually go with some Rosens like I had in my 170.

Much better now

Looks great Rob! What did you use for paint? Did they have the vinyl on them before?

Thanks David,

They didn't have vinyl on them before, just dirty faded paint, probably original. After I primed them, I sprayed on some Rustoleum truck bed liner. This is the same stuff I used for the rudder pedals and cabin steps on my 170. I like the textured finish. I'll probably finish them off with some black rubber u-channel around the sides and bottom edge.

Re: Flying with RobW56

Took the 180 out for the last flight of the year. I went out to hit a couple spots on the west circuit then flew out to the coast near Point Reyes, down to the Golden Gate Bridge, then back home landing just after sunset. I saw another Skywagon over Alcatraz heading the opposite direction, wagged my wings, wasn't anyone here was it???

First true off airport landing in the 180 since I've owned it

Flying over the Golden Gate.... again.... never gets old

Flying low over Grizzly Island a few minutes from home. There's elk out here believe it or not... I wasn't able to spot them today though.

Re: Flying with RobW56

I flew up to Gravelly Valley today with my bike to go on a ride. On final approach I flew over a heard of elk that are usually hanging around by the lake. I rode down to get a closer look and counted about 85 elk. I saw some other elk on my ride as well including a few bulls. I wish I would have brought my good camera with zoom lens so I could have gotten some better pictures.

After all the rain we've been getting Lake Pillsbury is the highest I've seen it in a few years

Re: Flying with RobW56

What a great way to spend a winter day Rob! All of our local elk and local pilots in Central Oregon are dealing with feet of snow (for several weeks now). Makes me want to fly south...

The cow in the front of this heard looks really blonde, almost albino. Unusual.

Great pictures and great news for NorCal!

We landed the big turboprop in Santa Rosa on Tuesday night in the midst of some the heaviest rain I've seen in my whole life, and I'm from Seattle!

Looks like you had a great day, thanks for sharing! Everytime I see the elk it is almost dark. Very cool to see the heard out when the sun's still up! That was a great day to fly for shure.

Re: Flying with RobW56

I got stuck in Washington so it gave me a chance to go see Bryan (piperpainter). We flew to Bremerton this morning for breakfast and got some YUGE chicken fried steaks.

Re: Flying with RobW56

Is that the airport cafe at Bremerton? I have only stopped there once on the way to HSF to check that I had put my oil filler cap back on after leaving Port Townsend (I had). Looks like a worthwhile place to eat:)

Haha. I landed at Friday Harbor once to do the same, and I hadn't

Yes, that was the cafe at Bremerton. It's worth a stop for sure!
