Kevin,
Take a look at Blue Wing dry lake, just east of Pyramid lake. Almost no chance of vehicle traffic compared to Black Rock and still big enough to handle most any crowd. Also closer to Tahoe and the Carson Valley than BR. Here's a picture:

For those of you thinking of coming to the fly-in but have some concerns I thought I would post my experience with the 172. My plane was empty except me and fairly full fuel tanks. I estimated my take off roll at about 800 to 900 ft. When you look at pictures down the runway to the east, it appears that you take off and need to climb immediately over a hill but that is not the case. If you make a slight turn to the right around the hill there is a dirt road that comes up the canyon to the the lake bed. I use the technique taught by Jim Dulin (contactflying). I take off and stay in ground effect over the lake bed. Once the plane is flying in ground effect I make a slight right turn around the hill and follow the road through the canyon down to the valley floor. I doubt I even climb 30 ft. when you come out in the valley you are probably 300 ft off the ground. I point the nose down, gain airspeed through the canyon and over the valley floor so I have plenty of lift. Also, usually as you come out over the valley there are thermals (depending on the wind of course) that provide more lift. Below are a few pictures from today. Not the best quality but all I had was my cell phone.
This is a photo down the runway (looking east). At the end of the runway (center of the picture) is a hill but just to the right is where the road comes up to the lake bed. A slight right turn, a slight left turn and follow the road down to the valley.
The surafce is as hard as asphalt. Hardly any dust on the plane!
A shot looking north. I beleive this is where everyone will be parking.
