Re: High SIerra Fly-in Oct 10-12, 2014 **KCXP FUEL DISCOUNT!

Kevin, I'm debating whether to bring my -12 or fly my friend's Bush Hawk. The BH would get me there faster, leaving me more time to play, but how many strips am I going to miss out on by flying a 185 type rather than a SC type? At my altitude (7k) I figure I need 1,000 ft to land the BH (cut me some slack here all you AK bush pilots, I only fly this thing occasionally). If that will rule out too many strips, I don't mind flying slow to get there.

Let's just keep this between us. If my -12 finds out I'm thinking about stepping out on her with something younger and sleeker, she's going to be PISSED! :)

I wouldn't rule that out, Whee. That would give me a more legitimate excuse for avoiding the SLC airspace than "I'm a hick who doesn't like to talk on the radio..."

Hey Darin,

When are you coming through the SLC area? I'll be leaving sometime on Thursday. Thinking about going over to Alvord Desert for that night, then dropping down to 3SGS the next day. Maybe hitting Bluewing on the way down too. Otherwise it will be right out to Wendover to LOL and on down.

Not sure what my plans are yet, but I'll keep you posted as it gets closer. Would love to have some company for the trip down if we can make it work. If I fly the BH, I assume I'd be passing through the SLC area sometime Thursday morning. I'll keep in touch.

Sounds good. I might be solo so some company would be great.

Re: High SIerra Fly-in Oct 10-12, 2014 **KCXP FUEL DISCOUNT!

2 1/2 weeks out! They better get that fire out or my flying will be on this god damn computer....starting to twitch. Have not flown in a week. Rain is forecasted for mid week so we have hope! 20% contained as of today. Anyhow, here is some HSF porn for your viewing pleasure. Getting fired up!

If you have some videos from other landing spots please post them here. We are trying to create a little map with info for pilots to go have some fun. We also have 5 or 6 guys that know the area very well and will be taking guys out to these places depending on experience and desires. There really is something for everyone.

Remember on Friday and Saturday morning around 8am we will have pilot meeting briefs to inform everyone of the daily plan for those interested.

This first one is of Lowrider, Splashpilot a I from a few years back playing around at 3SGS...the HSF home base

Departing "High Boy" ...not for the faint at heart...

And some fun north up by Honey Lake...

Anyone else have anything?

Re: HSF - Oct 10-12, 2014 **KCXP FUEL DISCOUNT! UPDATED 9/21

Flew into 3SGS today. Smoke stayed away until late down here. The lake was hard with minimal doughnuts cut into it. However; there is a spot I think everyone should know to stay clear of. Image
It looks like someone let off a bomb of nails! They are pretty thick too. I think if a guy stays at least 50' clear of this spot they should be fine. It looks like a mound with a septic pipe sticking out of the top. There is also two tire fire rings next to it. Just thought I would give a heads up.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly all those little tiny rocks can turn into not-so-tiny rocks, and it always seems to happen in the second or two right before you touch down! :D

Cool vid, and very cool landing.

Nice work! Never put a name on that one! "Quinns Mesa" it is! The rocks at the far end do get big however...

This photo is from 2 years ago from Rob

As for the other saddle, I have looked at that one for a very long time. Betting its a first! You should name it! The 35" cub guys will have a ball up there! Did you see the old rock fence that runs the ridge to the right? Have always wanted more beta about it.

Very very nice work!
