I spent the night at West Fork the day I lost my engine. Unfortunately I didn't make it to West Fork, and ended up on the south end of Painted Rock Lake (Coal Creek Rd.) Hawk landed at WF and they gave him the van to pick me up at the unscheduled landing spot.

Tex knows how to cook the meals there, especially prime rib.

Beautiful day at Pacific City. Had to escape the heat in the valley. Portland is setting records for heat that has stood for 10 years. Two days in a roll of 100s. Next week in the mid to upper 90s. Went for a hike this morning down to the Cape and back beautiful about 60° here. Got our annual QB Winnding this afternoon. Hope to come back to Pacific City tonight and Sunday. Might have to fly up to Nehalem Bay later today or this evening and say hi to Scott and Teresa. If you're in the area make sure to call me and will drink a cold one.

Flying the hot rod today. Rockn around the block in old town Gresham. Me and the boy went. Heres a little of what we saw.

With my cousins at The Cowboy Dinner Tree. This is an old line shack for a cattle operation. Rustic to say the least. Mark owns the strip next door. He is a fantastic craftsmen. Scratch built Super Cub with an O540 Lyc.

The Warm Springs fire is going strong. They had level 3 evacuation one day and had the main road closed.

They just showed a segment about the Cowboy Dinner Tree on NWCN last night.

Pretty smokey and yellow back here in the valley today.

Oh darn. Looks like we better spend another night at Pacific City. No since going back to IFR in smoke. The smoke has made it to the beach. The sunset will be awesome.

Fun at Pacific City with Paul Sarah and Dan. Great day in the sunshine. And

It has been a great flying season and it is still going.

Been another great season flying with old friends and new.

Uhhh... regarding your post from August 17 at 8:50AM, specifically the photo of your cousins at the Cowboy Dinner Tree...

Speaking as one of the more well-fed members of this discussion forum, I have to ask a gastro-technical question. Did I see that photo correctly, was that two whole chickens and two shoe box sized steaks... and potatoes... and giant Ball jar drinks on that table... for three people?

I guess there might be an IO-720 STC available for that Maule

You saw right EZ. They do not allow shared meals. $28 bucks per head. Well worth the flight!! It took us two more breakfast and one more lunch to eat the left overs. Steak and eggs for breakfast. Chicken salad for lunch. That is part of the reason I am back on my diet.

I'll be headed down south to Palm Desert, Cali. Leaving Monday or Tuesday October 12th or 13th. Mt route will be Chicken Strip, Palm Desert, Kernville, Lake Havasu, Big Bear, Hemet. Then head north to Dead Cow Thursday 22nd.

So to all my SOCAL buddies I'll be looking for flying, food and cocktail partners. Butch, Walt, Russ, Big John, Little John, Doc, Dave, Joe and Rick.

Butch, I talked to Curtis, he said we can come by if we want. He will pick us up at the airport. I saw his plane parked in Idaho last week.

If any of you SOCAL guys are going to High Sierra maybe do a loose formation???
