Hey there Rob,

Look over the Chicken Strip well before putting down. They had some big convective storms down there end of last week, Death Valley had roads washed out and other flooding, Bishop had heavy rain with the same storm. Have not received any Saline Valley reports, but always the possibility of runway washouts.

Fly safe, soak warm.....

Thanks Dave: I will be extra vigilant. I hope you have been well. Missed not coming to Reno for the air races. I'm guessing I will see you at High Sierra.

Getting excited for my SOCAL trip. All my ducks are in a row. Taking my gas bags. MOGAS 2 minutes from Bermuda dunes KUDD $2.99 a gallon. That's $1-$2 less than my normal fill up spots. I will be camping Chicken Strip Wednesday 14th. Lunch at Kernville Thursday 15th

Looking for flying options for Friday thru Sunday. Bacon strip. Walts place??

Cheers...Rob

Been there two times. Next year I'll take the wife because she is retiring after 34 years teaching school.

OregonMaule Destinations: SOCAL Oct 14-21

Cory, you wouldn't love it this morning. I was awakened by lightning flashes at 0430. I had plenty of sleep by then so I got up to watch the show. I turned on ForeFlight to see
where the rain was. 20 miles away, no worries, right! Soon I noticed the trend, it was headed right at me. I stashed everything I didn't want wet and watched as the lighting got more intense. At first no thunder. Now thunder and lightening and it is coming across the valley from south to north. Now the wind is really kicking up. I wished I had tied down. Now the lighting is so intense I figure I got to get inside my Maule man cave. Now the rain comes, not the pitter patter type, the I'll soak your ass MF type. At this point I remember Pops holding is Super Cub in the wind storm at Death Valley. I honest to God thought the wind was going to damage my plane. Now remember it is still pitch black, except for lighting. My best idea to save my plane was to climb into the pilots seat, buckle in and be ready to fly the bitch. I shit you not, I thought it was going to flip. After what seemed like an eternity, probably 15 minutes it was over. The Maule jumped my 2x4 chock blocks and moved the tail 4'. Looking back no big deal. Seemed worse than it was.

Now totally IFR waiting for VFR. It might be a few hours. Good thing. Down to 1/3 bottle of Jim Beam.

Cheers Rob

Oh man! As I read that I was thinking of Pop's story before you mentioned it. I'm glad it all turned out ok and that all is well. Hopefully no damage to the strip either. Be safe man! See you next week.
