Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

First time post for me, long time guest.

Flew to Homer yesterday in the 170 I'm buying... awesome flight, but anyone fly there know of a better/safer way than diving over the bluff to land on 3 and make right traffic? I hate flying over the water this time of year and that really seems like the only solution.

My buddy says that 1500ft/min might be uncomfortable for non pilot passengers...

Yeah, fun isn't it?

Why not over the water? You'll be within gliding distance to the runway pretty much throughout?

Re: Where did you fly today?

Few days late, I didn't have internet...

I've been out of town the last two weeks. I spent 10 days at Pierce Aero's aircraft restoration seminar. I got to work with the Stewart's system covering a set of slotted Pacer wings from Dakota Cub. Assembled a set of Dakota Cub J-3 wings. Helped with taking 3 different Super Cub wrecked fuselages and make them into one in the jig.

Beat out my lower cowling and got it all ready to rivet back together and paint once I get the fit checked to my plane, I'll put pics of that in my Stinson thread.

Also got to fly with Steve Pierce in his Pacer on 29's out to some gravel bars in the area.

And then I got some left seat time for re-currency in a Clipper.

After that I went to Oklahoma to get my oral and practical done for my A&P. Good two weeks, and now I'm back in the cold!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Good day of flying. Thanks HC for coming all the way down, wish it was a little smoother for ya.

Flew to KLIC to gas up and gave some tailwheel instruction, then met HC and Nate at Kelly for my annual. Thanks Nate for giving me a ride home.

Flew up to Elma yesterday for a $100 hamburger. In spite of the cumulus clouds, the air was fairly smooth.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I just got back from today's lesson which was flying from Merrill up to Willow to see the start of the Iditarod. Of course I was under the hood the whole way there and back but my instructor at least let me take it off to check everything out while we circled the festivities a couple of times. :D

Cool. I have a friend volunteering as a vet again this year. She always comes back with interesting stories.

Thats brave. There were so many yahoos flying anything and everything that they could get into the air that I wouldnt cover my eyes for nothing. I know its VFR and you can go anywhere you please but I like the guys who fly on the left side of the trail into all the oncoming traffic at about the same altitude.

Yeah, once we switched off of Anchorage Approach, it seemed like there was almost constant chatter on 122.8. But, we tried to stay well above everybody and only hung around a few minutes.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Dropped off three skiers plus gear for a 80-mile ski trip. Three separate flights in the 170. I need a Beaver or a Helio...

I was in range of Nikolai at that point and thought hard about continuing on to see the Iditarod teams come through, but just couldn't swing it in the end.

Camped out a night instead, and woke to strong gusts on the lake. A snow block wall alongside the plane helped the Northern Companion do it's job.

Severe clear all the past week, and in the one-week outlook as well. Anyone here happen to visit Nikolai for the race?

Wish i could justify being away from my post to get over there, the weather has been spectacular! But everything gets scheduled at iditarod time. got a basketball tournament to babysit starting tomorrow, Nome-Golovin snowmachine race (usually good for a few casualties) on Saturday, and Spring get together, which is in White Mountain this year (usually good for importing a load of new illness). Might get to slip down to Unalakleet on Sunday, usually the front-runners are in by noon or so.

If you copy the "IMG code" that is next to your picture and paste it into your post it will show the whole picture so people don't have to click on the links. Nice pics by the way, is that an Enduro that you have?
