Neat pic of the Salt Lake. Still remember when it was flooding back in 1983 or 4. Happy birthday!!!

Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Thanks! It is! My dad got it for my bday last year. Sadly I've not shot it as much as I'd like. Very accurate gun!

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

It was a gorgeous day here yesterday. Fortunately I needed to try out my new Delorme Inreach Explorer as well as test a few things on the plane. It was a little bumpy over the mountains but glass smooth over the valley and lake. I got the plane a little dirty, but luckily it cleaned up pretty easy.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Yesterday I had the chance to take a friend from Suriname, South America flying. She is here visiting and this is her first time to the US, as well as the first time seeing snow and feeling the cold. I picked her up in Heber and we did a local flight. The wind was ripping at ridge level, but luckily it was smooth over Heber. Unfortunately, that kept us from going and seeing some of the things I would have liked to have shown her. I think she was a bit overwhelmed by the beauty and sensation...just by the whole experience. It was pretty cool. I had Adam with me and a few others that spent some time with me in Suriname.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Yeah, he wanted to fly but it was bumpy and we had to go back over Salt Lake, so he was buried in his new DS game and I had to coax him up!

Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

What a day! I had an early AM departure to meet up with Allen and Stan at Huntington, UT. Fog was just starting form when I got to the airport and by the time I pulled the plane out, it was 1/4 vis in FZFG. It was patchy and to the east it was clear. I fueled and taxied out, planning on a special VFR get out, which by this time I had the vis for. By the time we were ready, the vis was up to 4 miles so no special needed.

We had a beautiful flight down to Huntington, met up with Stan and Allen, got gas, and headed for Mexican Mountain. We had a nice time there checking out the petroglyphs and had a snack of doughnuts and hot chocolate.

Then on to Happy Canyon via the Swell and following the Dirty Devil River. We had a picnic lunch there, replaced the windsock, took a hike to look at petrified wood, and did a little shooting. The weather was perfect!

On our way back to Huntington for gas, I stopped into Angel Point. It's in great shape. It looks like it was recently graded. We split ways at Huntington and then things got interesting!

It was a beautiful evening and the sun had just set. I pulled up the Ogden weather and...low IFR! Ugh! The fog had developed and it was IFR all the way from the point of the mountain to Tremonton. I got a pop up IFR and shot the ILS down to about 400' AGL. Intermittent ground contact but previous aircraft had gone missed with only one getting in. They reported it at minimums. I decided I didn't need that and went missed. Plan B? We pressed on to Preston, ID where my in-laws live. We were headed there tomorrow anyway for a family Christmas party. Thank goodness for cell service so I could text ahead. Our ride showed up right after we landed. Soon we were at their house eating burgers from a drive through and winding down for the night. All in all a great aviation adventure, even if it didn't end how we thought it would! Now I just hope I can get the ice cube started tomorrow!

Morning fog.

You should be careful who you meet up with. Don't want to be meeting up with Satan. :D
Other than that looks like an awesome trip. It's inspiring how you get out with your family and exactly what I'm hoping to do with mine.
