Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Yeah, everything is definitely relative...and all of it is expensive, no matter how you cut it!

It definitely is a great family hauler. If I can eventually get a cargo pod option and/or an extended baggage compartment worked out for it, I'll be set.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

It seems like every year, the Fall colors come on and are immediately blown off by a storm. This year, we finally have some that have stuck around enough to enjoy. Although the dry year meant the colors aren't as vibrant as they could have been, there are still pockets that are really pretty.

Yesterday, we did an afternoon flight to Afton to go through an open house on a new LDS temple that was just completed. We met Allen and Stan there. I put the sixth seat in after my annual a couple of weeks ago so my sister-in-law could join us. It was a great flight and enjoyable evening. We had some good Mexican food at Agave afterwards too. I don't do much night flying and this was our first as a family in the new plane. It was a beautiful flight home.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Nice post. Thanks for the Bear Lake pictures. When I brought my 180 home about 5 years ago I stopped at the Paris Airport (Bear Lake). It was the one of the nicest and cleanest pilot lounges I have seen

Thanks

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

This last week we got our last big trip in for the year. Probably our last camping trip too. With the kids being out if school, we decided to do a couple days in San Francisco before heading over to the High Sierra Fly-in. We based out of Concord (CCR) which was really convenient. The transient parking is right over the fence from the Crown Plaza, accessed via a pedestrian gate. And the hotel has a free shuttle to the Bart station. Lots of eating options around the hotel too. After hitting the sights Thursday afternoon and Friday, we headed over to HSF Saturday morning. With so many people there, and our shorter time at the fly-in, it was hard to see everyone that we wanted to see. Still, a great time. Kevin did a great job putting together a great event. It was a fun weekend despite Sadie not feeling well for some of it.

Yeah they are...too fast! It really does go by too quickly. Dee made the comment that she will miss Tyler dropping his drawers to his ankles when going to the bathroom...even in the desert!

I am so sorry I never got to meet you guys. I absolutely love how your wife and kids love to fly with you. She always looks like she is having so much fun in the pictures. You are a lucking man. As a family you will have so many wonderful memories. Just another reason to returning 2017. I apologize again for the swear words during my presentation around the kids.

Thanks. I appreciate that. I'm sorry we didn't get to meet you too. It was hard to see everyone with so many people there. She is great. She wasn't sure about being there on our anniversary, but knew I wanted the whole family to be there. It didn't hurt that we threw in a side trip to SFO. Definitely great memories with the kids. They don't know how good they have it.

Well, back to recurrent training. One more day to go...

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

After being home for nearly a week and a half, I finally got up for a short flight today. I did manage to wash and wax it last week though. Hopefully I'll get some more flying in before the end of the week.

Hey Rich. There are two strips. Both are pretty straightforward. It's on private property and recently the owners have given UBCP permission to use it. Just be extra cautious not to have an incident. We don't want to get the invite rescinded. Great place. Some neat things to see to. Yell sometime and we could meet up.

Re: Grassstrippilot's Flying Adventures

Friday was my birthday and I was able to get out for a little flying. Usually I'd have gone somewhere with friends or the family, or both. But this year the kids had school and others were busy, so I slipped over to a desert strip for a short hike and to harass a few bunnies. It was sunny, but windy and cold. Kind of bumpy too. Still, glad to get up and fly. A nice 10-20 kt headwind made for a short landing and takeoff.
