Re: Photo Thread: Float Flying

Thought I'd post a pic of my girls posing with the 180 and their morning catch, one fine sunny July morning this past summer.

Phantom Lake, about 10nm from my home airport but almost impossible to access by land. It is hard to imagine a place so remote but close to home.

Vern was good. Demanding in a good way, like my father.

I’m glad there’s no “Like” button on BCP, but some of these photos make me want to click Like!

I went to Lake Oroville (O06) yesterday. The lake is extremely low as they are repairing the spillway (possibly 150' or more down) but the weather was beautiful and the visibility across California was unlimited.

Seems like a good idea, until you find out how many other people want to live there with you...

I flew floats today and plan to continue all winter. Didn't see another plane until I was coming back and joining the pattern. Most of the radio chatter I heard was from a long way away because it was so cold and clear.

Now, flying floats without taking the frost off the wings and worrying about water that won't pump out of the floats because it is frozen, that is a different story. Not around here, that's for sure.

Re: Photo Thread: Float Flying

Radio, radios have no place in a float plane !!!!!

Just poking fun; however there's may days I depart, noodle my way to a favorite bit of lake and home again without ever turning it on and I'm pretty sure the transponder is full of cobwebs !!!!

Re: Photo Thread: Float Flying

It's a long 7 months of winter before float flying starts again.
