I can’t take credit. I was in the 170. Tom George flew the photo 185, and Hugh Rose is the photographer. But you’re right, it’s a great photo.

Beautiful photos MTV, and I love the Goose. My favourite civilian plane for style, wish I could afford one for fun, but I barely could buy the engines.

Looks like a low wall as opposed to a high wall.
Is it a vintage rifle, or one of the later reproductions? And what caliber?
My favorite uncle had an original highwall chambered in 30-40 Krag,
he had it re chambered to 30-40 Ackley.
He also had a Ruger #3 in 30-40, rechambered to the Ackley version.
His son owns the highwall now, had it re-barrelled to 25-06.

Good eye, there’s a man who knows his guns, that’s a new production low wall .17 HMR.

I do gunsmithing in the winter, and here’s a couple falling blocks I’ve built, a Hagn micro action (Canadian made), stocked it in Oregon black walnut, barreled in 5.6x50 Mag. Then a Ruger No.1 with the best wood I’ve ever worked, in .275 Rigby / 7x57.

And a SuperVan to keep us on track. :D

An airport employee buddy shot this one of me right after takeoff. He liked it because the cloud looks like a contrail!

Really nice shot! Those Garretts are amazingly powerful engines.....but NOISY... I'm thinking 900 hp on a Caravan would be a good start.

That thing would be a missile  The Garretts definitely make a howl compared to the PT6, but the performance and fuel efficiency are really impressive, I’m fully a believer. Quite economical to operate too, as far as turbines go.

Quite a plane you have there, a Moose Amphib, I’m envious.

I love I too. My friend completely rebuilt it after it was destined for the scrapyard. Needless to say he did a phenomenal job. There are 5 of them on floats in our area, I’m lucky enough to get the keys to each of them from time to time.

I flew a Garrett Caravan on amphibian similar to the one in your post for a summer, they are amazing machines too. 10,000’ at 160kts burning 375 lbs/hr on floats. Really enjoyed that airplane. Keep the pictures coming, great shots and a stunning area you have there.

July 8, 2020 at KGLR Gaylord (MI) Regional Airport. It was a hot and dry summer in northern lower Michigan. These were on stand by.

Re: Photo Thread: Float Flying

A good friend of mine, Jim Poel, flew most of those Curtiss replicas. He was a retired airline captain. His last flight in one of the early replicas crashed. Terrible deal. He never recovered. Those early airplanes are challenging to fly.

RIP Jim.

Re: Photo Thread: Float Flying

Very nice,

We drove by you when you were in Speculator Saturday morning. I almost stopped, but we were on the way to Watkins Glen for our anniversary. Looked pretty breezy for the light planes there. Sea Rays? I was wondering how they did. On another note we went to the Curtis Glenn Museum. Great stop! Living in NY my whole life I had never really spent any time in the Finger Lakes. Looks like we will have to fly out and visit for sure. Also swung by Ovid to check out the strip and say hey, the owner flies here every once in a while. Keep us posted on the fall fly in out your way.

Re: Photo Thread: Float Flying

I miss flying floats! I was going to put a plane on floats this summer, but all the guys that take their planes to Canada are stuck here. When they bring their planes up there, it usually opens places here. Leaves open space to keep one locally.

On another note, a Fireboss, helicopter, and Aero commander were off the NE end of my strip fighting a Forest fire last night. Was working on a tractor and heard low flying planes. Thought one of my buddies was doing a low pass. No one landed, so I walked to the middle of the strip and saw the water bombers dropping water. Luckily there is a lake right there by the fire and the helicopter was sure making quick pickups and drops.
